TIM Burton is rebooting The Addams Family as his first ever live-action TV series – but with a major shake-up.
The acclaimed director of Edward Scissorhands and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory fame is set to direct and executive produce all episodes, according to Deadline.
Meanwhile, the series will be written by Smallville creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar.
However the reboot would see a major change as it is claimed it will be set in 2020 and told from the perspective of the family's teenage daughter Wednesday Addams.
The Addams Family was first created by Charles Addams in 1938 as a series of single cartoons and published in The New Yorker Magazine.
They were turned into a television series for 1964 sitcom starring John Astin as Gomez and Carolyn Jones as Morticia.
Then in 1991 the hit movie version starring Angelica Huston, Raul Julia and Christina Ricci was released, followed by a sequel in 1993.
The most recent version of The Addams Family was the 2019 animated movie with Charlize Theron and Oscar Isaac among the voice cast.
While the series will be his live-action TV show, Tim did executive produce the animated series of Beetlejuice, which aired from 1989-1991.
Deadline also reports that a number of networks bidding for the new series, with Netflix reportedly the frontrunner.
