Tipping Point contestant leaves fans cringing with cheeky ‘come to mama’ phrase

One Tipping Point contestant left ITV viewers cringing in front of their TV screens after coming out with a rather cheeky catchphrase to help earn her some good luck during the game.

Appearing on the coin-pushing show on Monday night (31 May), four new contestants entered the studio to test their luck against the mighty arcade machine for the big £10,000 jackpot.

The latest batch of quiz show hopefuls included IT analyst Fatima, primary school teacher Shane, solicitor Mick, and Mary who were all ready to bag the big cash prize.

Mary – who is a contact centre manager from Leeds – had got off to a successful start on the Bank Holiday episode after demonstrating her knowledge and bagging a handful of counters – rushing into the lead with £750.

However, when it came back around to her turn at the Tipping Point machine, she had a unique way of willing her counters on to win some luck.

Faced with the machine in front of TV host Ben Shephard, she commentated as her counter fell though the machine onto the top shelf, saying: "Now here we go… sits flat."

Ben chimed in, saying "Settles nicely… what's going over the top shelf, anything here?"

Mary then excitedly cheered on her counters to get them over the edge by quipping: "Come to mama!"

However, it seemed her new catchphrase on the show didn't work as her counters didn't manage to push any chips over the edge, with Ben crying out: "Oh Mary no, no, no!"

But Mary's saucy catchphrase seemed to ruffle some feathers on social media, with many viewers who were clearly taken aback by the bold line taking to Twitter to vent their confusion.

One baffled Twitter fan wrote in: "Come to mama…" with a sick-face emoji.

A second flabbergasted viewer penned: "Come to mama? Oh no…"

A third Tweeter, clearly unimpressed with the phrase, said: "Come to mama, p*ss off love."

And a fourth seemed to see the funny side of the moment, replying: "Mary saying come to mama," with an attached GIF of actor Steve Carrell shaking his head "no".
