The coronavirus pandemic has ensured filming for Vikings season six is not able to continue until lockdown restrictions can be restricted. As viewers wait for new episodes to arrive on the History Channel and Amazon Prime, the fan community is rife with speculation.
Ten episodes remain of Michael Hirst’s thrilling historical drama, and fans are on the edge of their seat as the final season promises the brutal fall of the Age of Vikings.
When the audience left the series in February of this year, series lead Bjorn Ironside (played by Alexander Ludwig) fell victim to a fatal attack from Ivar the Boneless (Alex Høgh Andersen).
Moreover, as the deadly Rus forces make their way onto shore, the series is building to a grisly end for Bjorn and his fellow Viking warriors.
Although Bjorn’s fate seems to be sealed, some intriguing comments from the star of the show has led some viewers to believe the fearsome warrior could make a surprise comeback in the latter half of season six.

Moreover, some fans have suggested the current King of Norway, Harald (Peter Franzén) could have also survived the Rus attack and make one last stand against the impending invasion.
One viewer took to Reddit to propose a surprising character could make their return to the show in order to assist the seemingly doomed soldiers.
Redditor autisticgambler posted: “I do not think King Harald and Bjorn are actually dead.
“I think that Þórunn, yes the girl they just suddenly cut out of the show and the other Kings Bjorn summoned, will come to their aid.”
Like several characters throughout Vikings, Þórunn (Gaia Weiss) was introduced in season two as a servant for the Viking rulers.
She eventually became a formidable shield-maiden and one of Bjorn’s wives.
Although she was an integral part of the second and third seasons, Þórunn’s fate remains unknown as she decided to leave Kattegat at the end of season three.
Several characters have been proposed as making potential comebacks to aid the Rus resistance, though Þórunn being introduced again this late in the game would certainly constitute a major surprise.

Meanwhile, other fans aren’t so convinced by the theory, but agree the next half of the season could see the return of the Jarls and Kings that have featured throughout the series.
One fan responded: “Þórunn , she won’t return. However, the other Jarls/Kings will come to his aid and we’ll get a big battle in the next episode.
“Bjorn most likely beats the Rus and dies saving his country and Gods from destruction and therefore greater than Ragnar.”
While most fans are convinced Bjorn will survive one more episode into the second half of season six, it’s widely agreed the mighty king will eventually succumb to his wounds.

However, it remains a mystery whether any new characters will be introduced at the last minute to come to Bjorn’s aid.
Viewers are still holding out hope that fan favourite Floki (Gustaf Skarsgård) will make a return after his ambiguous fate last season.
Meanwhile, Alexander Ludwig has teased the return of Bjorn and said: “I’ll tell you this though, he doesn’t go without a fight.”
“Whether or not he is still alive; you will see a version of Bjorn in the next season in some way, shape or form.”
Vikings is available to stream on Amazon Prime.
