The last few seasons of Virgin River have thrown up a number of new faces to offer fresh challenges to the likes of Jack (played by Martin Henderson) and Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge). From Dr Cameron Hayek (Mark Ghanime) and Todd (Patrick Sobongui) to Julia (Lucia Walters) and Melissa (Barbara Pollard), Netflix subscribers are eagerly awaiting to see what the future holds. However, a number are hoping Mel and Doc’s (Tim Matheson) new colleague D Hayek won’t be sticking around for the long haul.
In a fresh new forum post, several fans have taken the opportunity to share their hopes that Cameron will no longer pose an obstacle to Mel and Jack’s romance.
Since his introduction in the Netflix drama, Cameron has struck up a bond with colleague Mel.
However, she’s failed to reciprocate the feelings he harbours for her, with Mel’s attention set firmly on her new fiancee Jack and their imminent newborn baby.
Cameron ended season four with the impression he was going to leave Virgin River but actor Ghanime will be back for the new season – but will he continue to throw spanners into Mel and Jack’s romance?

Cameron’s interference and storyline as a whole are something fans are keen to see shed from the show’s scripts.
On Reddit, a Virgin River fan by the name of U/mtc2591 kicked off the discussion.
They stated: “Dr Cameron. Another character from VR that I can’t stand, he is creepy and conveys the idea that he’s better than everyone else and he does not fit in. Plus, he is totally impressed with himself, he is almost as unlikeable as Charmaine (Lauren Hammersley).
“It would not hurt my feelings if he left the show. When Mel talked to him about leaving the clinic, he remarked that she had made her decision (the engagement) – did he assume that he was even a consideration??”
The Virgin River’s fan failed to create division among the fanbase, with several actually concurring and echoing the original poster’s point of view.
Fellow fan U/whome2075 weighed in: “Lol..he was slightly presumptuous with her. He doesn’t quite fit in. I don’t think he’s an interesting character.
“If they wanted to create a love triangle, they should have made him more charming or something. Right now he is sort of like a coat rack….just there for function.”
And this was echoed by U/nikki_2370 who said: “I also feel like his behaviour is borderline harassment as he keeps seeking out Mel, but Mel has firmly told him no multiple times.”

The calls for Cameron’s departure kept on coming as U/ApplesAndPants added to the discussion: “I really don’t like him either. I think he is really nervy to be in town a few weeks and start making judgment calls about Mel and her relationship with Jack.
“Since it looks like he will be around for the next season, I hope they have plans to turn his attention elsewhere.”
While U/Jsscmurhog commented: “He would be fine if he wasn’t so overstepping with Mel and Jack’s relationship. That was so disgusting to me and Mel was way too nice in my opinion.”
And U/DaT**dBird concurred: “Yup he made me really uncomfortable and I’m like I feel bad for Doc needing help, but this dude is not good…” (sic)
While Jack and Mel may have to deal with Cameron’s presence a little while longer than fans hope, they also face bigger problems of their own closer to home.
After all, Jack’s ex Charmaine (Lauren Hammersley) dropped the life-changing bombshell in season four’s final moments that her unborn twins weren’t Jack’s.
Add to the mix the former marine finally discovered he was the true father of Mel’s unborn baby and season five promises to be like none other before for the Virgin River stalwarts.
Virgin River seasons 1-4 are available to stream on Netflix now.
