PAUL O'Grady's fans have been sharing the moment the star – as Lily Savage – got drunk on This Morning with Richard Madeley.

The comedian's devoted following have been taking to social media in the wake of his tragic death to share their favourite bits from his star-studded career.

Paul, who was best known for his drag alter-ego Lily Savage and his Radio 2 show, passed away "unexpectedly but peacefully" yesterday.

His husband Andre Portasio said: "It is with great sadness that I inform you that Paul has passed away unexpectedly but peacefully yesterday evening.

"We ask, at this difficult time, that whilst you celebrate his life you also respect our privacy as we come to terms with this loss.

"He will be greatly missed by his loved ones, friends, family, animals and all those who enjoyed his humour, wit and compassion.

"I know that he would want me to thank you for all the love you have shown him over the years."

In the wake of the loss, fans flooded Twitter with their favourite clips of Paul, including a TV appearance on This Morning in 1994.

The clip shows Paul, dressed as Lily Savage with large blonde hair and a pink dress, "getting rotten drunk" during a wine tasting.

Appearing alongside Richard Madeley, and his wife Judy Finnigan, the star could be seen knocking back the drinks.

At one point, the comedian even threw a glass into the river behind him before stumbling around and singing.

"It's disgusting, what is that?! It's like the cat litter tray," Paul said as he tried a French beer, before drinking an entire glass of white wine.

"I don't really mind, I didn't want any anyway," the wine expert said, as his drink was snatched out of his hand and chaos broke out.

"This is really nice? How much is it? Oh I'm not paying a fiver for that, not when there's Blue Nun in the shops," Paul joked.

"Very nice though," he said as he finished the glass, throwing it behind him and into the river, leaving Richard, 66, and Judy, 74, in absolute hysterics.

Fans flooded the comments section of the post to gush over the "hilarious" star, as they grieved his loss.

"I don't think I ever laughed so hard in my life, easily the best comedian I've ever seen, RIP Paul," one wrote.

Another added: "Brilliant to see this again, Paul at his best as Lily. Thanks for posting it, it's put a smile & a laugh on a really sad day."

A third chimed in: "On such a sad day, this made me howl through my tears."

Paul's death was announced in the middle of the night, after he suddenly but "peacefully" passed away yesterday.

Paul's cause of death is yet to be confirmed, but he had struggled with his health in recent years.

Celebrities including Amanda Holden, Lorraine Kelly and Piers Morgan have led tributes to the late star today.

Lorraine appeared devastated this morning as she paid tribute to her trailblazing pal and had tears in her eyes as she told viewers about the time Paul had joined her on her show for her 50th birthday.

The Queen Consort Camilla also added her condolences today having formed a special bond with the star while worked closely together in support of Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.

The Brit personality – seen enjoying a drink at a bar with fans just days before he died – made a name for himself in comedy, and television – and later became known for his love of dogs.

In 2020, at the age of 65, Paul opened up about having three heart attacks, kidney failure and a coronavirus scare behind him.

At the time he told The Sun: “My cardiologist says I have the constitution of an ox.

"Three days after my last heart attack, I was back fire-eating with McFly.

“The heart is a muscle so you have two choices: Sit on the sofa and count your tablets all day, or get on with it and get moving — swimming and walking, gentle exercise.”

Paul suffered heart attacks in 2002, 2006 and 2014, and his parents both died of heart issues.
