British star Eve Best has giving an impressive turn as Rhaenys Velaryon, the Queen Who Never Was in the Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon. Rhaenys has already warned heir apparent Rhaenyra Targaryen (played by Milly Alcock) about the realm reluctance to accept a female ruler, just as she was passed over. Many viewers are keen to learn more about Best including her age and her other projects.

How old is Eve Best?

British actress Eve was born on July 31, 1971, in London, which means she turned 51 this year.

The actress first started performing at the tender age of nine, before she went to study English at Oxford University and then attended The Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts.

She has spoken about wanting to see more actresses her age on the stage and screen.

Best said in a recent interview: “Again, the speed of change needs to be snappier.

“I’m longing to see more women of around my age taking leads in romances, adventures or dramas in which they’re not being mothers, sidekicks or detectives.

“Sexy, interesting women who are over 40 – there are a lot of us out there and I’d like to see much more of us on screen,” she added to The Guardian.

Her screen credits date back to the 2000s with roles in The Infinite Worlds of H.G. Wells, Vital Signs, and Hugo Blick’s The Shadow Line.

She went on to star in The Honourable Woman, Nurse Jackie, Life in Squares, and Lucky Man.

Best is a prolific stage actress and has starred in productions of As You Like It, Macbeth, The Cherry Orchard, and The Heiress.

Her work has been critically acclaimed on both sides of the Atlantic after she was nominated for Tony Awards in both 2007 and 2008 for A Moon for the Misbegotten and The Homecoming respectively.

Best also walked away with an Olivier Award in 2005 for her turn in the title role of Hedda Gabler.

Among her radio credits are Emma, Dr Zhivago, Brideshead Revisited, and The Rape of Lucrece.

Not only has Best worked in front of the camera but she’s also served a director, helming a production of MacBeth in 2014.

Best admitted she was a “Game of Thrones virgin” when she went for the role of Rhaenys, saying she was unprepared for the “gobsmacking scale” of the production and described stepping onto set like walking into New York City and being surrounded by towering skyscrapers.

However, since working on House of the Dragon she caught up with the original HBO series.

She also revealed how there was much secrecy when she was auditioning for the show with the actress given an old Game of Thrones script with the character names changed.

Best hailed the writing and showrunner Miguel Sapochnik and writer Ryan Condal as well as saying she was thrilled when she found out Rhaenys was a dragon rider.

Along with starring in House of the Dragon, she is also known for her role in Netflix’s fantasy series Fate: The Winx Saga as Farah Dowling.

After appearing in House of the Dragon, Best said she’d like to star in a romantic comedy, admitting it wasn’t something she’d really done before.

Alternatively, Best said she’d quite like to play a Bond villain or even the role of a spy like Bond.
