It’s been a pretty unsettling time all round this year, what with the pandemic and all, and major soaps like Emmerdale have not been left unscathed by the widespead disruption of lockdown.
Filming on soaps like Emmerdale has been halted since March, and as a result, it’s only a matter of time before the stock of episodes which were filmed before production stopped runs out.
With tonight’s instalment of the soap set to end on a massive cliffhanger, many fans will no doubt be wondering if this is the last they’re going to see of the Dales for a while…
When does Emmerdale run out of episodes?
Sadly tonight’s episode of Emmerdale is indeed the last one left that was filmed pre-lockdown.

That means we’ll have to wait a little while before tonight’s cliffhanger is picked back up again.
But do not dispair Emmerdale fans, for there are lockdown special episodes on the way.
These specials will be airing twice a week and they’ll mostly be stand-alone episodes, although the things we’ll see during the lockdown episodes will feature in future storylines.

These episodes will have characters like Chas Dingle and Paddy Kirk (Lucy Pargeter and Dominic Brunt), Aaron and Cain Dingle (Danny Miller and Jeff Hordley), and Nicola and Jimmy King (Nicola Wheeler and Nick Miles) front and centre.
Producer Laura Shaw told Metro.co.uk: ‘It’s quite complicated to explain. When Emmerdale shut down and we went into lockdown period, we were mid block. We have a whole lot of scenes pre lockdown and a whole lot of scenes now. We end on a cliffhanger on Friday then it’s onto lockdown episodes.
‘The next day it will be like lockdown never happened. Those episodes are part shot, so we will see three weeks of Emmerdale in the same world as before – some of it will be shot with social distancing but with editing and camera trickery hopefully we won’t notice.
‘Then we set a new block of filming, we will reference coronavirus. The café and Woolpack will be takeaway only. But the specifics of the isolation episodes, the secrets we find out will feed into the future but it won’t be a direct pick up.’
Emmerdale is on tonight at 7pm on ITV.
