Gail Rodwell (Helen Worth) is left heartbroken in Coronation Street tonight (February 5), as she receives words that her dad Ted Page (Michael Byrne) has passed away.
It’s been quite a tough year for Gail thus far, as she’s been forced to come to terms with losing the house she’s called home for several decades.
However, she receives more bad news in tonight’s hour-long special, after taking a call from London.
Gail later confides in Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) that the phone call was from Ted’s partner Andrew, who confirmed that Ted is dead.
Gail is determined to assist with funeral arrangements, and therefore she decides to go down to London.
It’s a sad dad for the Platt clan, as they bid farewell to a legend, but if you need a little reminder as to who Ted was, then we’ve got all you need right here?
Who was Gail’s dad Ted in Coronation Street?
Ted Page was Gail’s father, who was absent for most his daughter’s life.
He was a solider, who had a relationship with Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls).
He soon proposed to Audrey during the 1950s, but she declined his proposal, and left — but little did Ted know that she was pregnant when he last saw her.
For years, Ted lived as an openly gay man, and had a partner named James, who died in 2007.
He reunited with Audrey in 2008, when she met up with him and revealed that he was a father.
Naturally, Ted was hurt that Audrey had kept such information from him, as he’d missed out on the chance to be a dad to Gail.
However, when he met Gail, they struck up a close bond, and he became a loving grandfather to David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) and Nick
He also became incredibly friendly with cobbles stalwart Ken Barlow (William Roache).
Ted appeared in a recurring capacity between 2008 and 2010, and memorably gave Gail away at her wedding to Joe McIntyre (Reece Dinsdale).
Who played Ted in Coronation Street?
Actor Michael Byrne portrayed Ted.
Coronation Street continues Friday February 5 at 7:30pm on ITV.
