The Worst Witch is dropping on BritBox next week, ready to give us a dose of nostalgia during lockdown.
The ITV series aired back in 1998, and followed a group of young witches who attended Miss Cackle’s school for magic.
Basically Harry Potter in TV show form.
We were so keen to have the OG magic crew on our screens once more that we delved into old episodes – and noticed a very famous face walking around the halls.
Who knew, years before Nancy popped up in Hollyoaks, she was causing chaos in a witch academy?
Actress Jessica Fox starred as Mildred Hubble’s (Georgina Sherrington) best pal Enid Nightshade, who played all kinds of practical jokes on the gang in the hopes of fitting in.
Basically, she was the fun one of the group.
Chatting to Metro.co.uk, Jessica recalled some of her favourite moments from the show – which aired until 2001.
‘It was a really, really fun thing to film. We had such a good time doing it,’ she told us. ‘There was always something mad happening.
‘I loved it when anything got blown up, I found that really exciting. Enid was very naughty, she was always getting into trouble and doing naughty things.
‘I think she blew something up, or she signed off-key on purpose and smashed bottles. And I just remember they had little explosives, and they were made out of a special glass that shatters if you just touch it.
‘Everything was just exploding around me, I remember thinking that was really, really cool.’
It sounds like her time on set for the Worst Witch really set Jessica up well for Hollyoaks – especially with everything blowing up around her.
And, as the 36-year-old faces a major milestone in Chester, she’s thrilled to have another career high to look back on with the ITV series appearing on BritBox.
‘It’s actually really nice,’ she continued. ‘Obviously I’m on Hollyoaks and it will be 15 years this year, it feels like there’s lots of looking back for me at the moment, because there’s quite a lot of milestones happening.
‘It’s nice to revisit and remember all the things that you’ve done.
‘I was really lucky I started working when I was really little, about seven or eight. It’s nice to look at your back catalogue, and think, “Gosh, didn’t I do a lot?”.’
‘I know that from when people speak to me, their eyes always light up and they go, “I loved the Worst Witch!”,’ she added.
‘It’ll be really nice to hear that again, really. It’s always nice to be told that the programmes you were in were loved.’
The Worst Witch is available on BritBox from 7th May. Visit www.britbox.co.uk to sign up for a 30 day free trial.
