Disney+ opened with much fanfare on Nov. 12, though it did hit a lot of snags along the way. But now, more than a month later, a lot of people love it. One of the biggest hits is The Mandalorian, which tells the story of Mando, a bounty hunter under the Mandalorian warrior religion. He never takes his helmet off, he’s stoic as hell, and a great fighter and strategist. He’s also now the protector of Baby Yoda, which gives the show a cuteness factor fans weren’t expecting at the start.
The show differs from other streaming platforms in that The Mandalorian wasn’t released in bulk for you to binge all at once. Instead, it comes out on a weekly schedule like network TV shows. But the schedule changed a little this week and it has to do with the other, massive Star Wars premiere on Dec. 20.
‘The Mandalorian’ typically airs on Fridays and the season finale is next week
As stated above, The Mandalorian is a weekly show that started on Nov. 12, a Tuesday, and then aired on Fridays starting Nov. 15. So far, that’s been the only weird part of the schedule. Next week, on Dec. 27, the season finale premieres.
So this week might take you by surprise when you see that a new episode — Chapter 7 — releases on Wednesday, Dec. 18. This is, of course, because a bigger premiere is on Friday, Dec. 20: The Rise of Skywalker. It’s the final installment in the Skywalker saga and will have all Star Wars fans rushing to the theaters to see it.
The early release is because of ‘The Rise of Skywalker’
Episode IX is the reason behind this weird release date. And before you get too excited, this isn’t because Chapter 7 is a direct precursor or leads into the new film. First off, that’d be hard to do, considering The Mandalorian takes place five years after Return of the Jedi, and therefore 26 years apart from Episode IX. Unless Baby Yoda does actually play a part in The Rise of Skywalker, the two won’t connect.
Basically, the studio released them on separate days so they don’t conflict with anyone who wants to catch both, but might choose the new film over the show because of a busy schedule. And it works out for fans too because according to CinemaBlend, there will be a sneak peek of Episode IX in the release of Chapter 7.
What can fans expect from Season 2?

While there isn’t a lot known about Season 2 of the Disney+ series, we do know that Baby Yoda is coming back for sure. The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson spoiled that when he revealed he went on set within the last two months and saw Baby Yoda. “I spotted Baby Yoda in the corner, and the producer shot me a look as if to say, ‘You can’t say a word!’” he told The Wrap. “I’ve been holding that secret in my heart for forever now. And the memes are amazing. I’m very pro-Baby Yoda.”
Showrunner Jon Favreau posted a picture of Mando’s helmet from the set of Season 2 on Nov. 13, confirming that they’re currently filming.
Again, no word on a synopsis for the next bunch of episodes or when they’ll premiere, but they’re bound to excite any fan. This is the way, after all.
