Will there be a Gavin and Stacey Christmas special in 2020?

THERE has been a lot of buzz about the return of Gavin and Stacey as Nessa shockingly proposed to Smithy in last year's Christmas special.

After the BBC and Joanna Page seemed to imply there might be more Gavin and Stacey episodes in the pipeline, fans are all thinking one thing – what's occurin'?

Will there be a Gavin and Stacey Christmas special 2020?

Gavin and Stacey fans will be sad to hear that there will not be a 2020 follow on from last year's Christmas special.

But BBC director of TV, Charlotte Moore, confirmed that a follow-up special in 2020 was never on the cards.

"That wasn't something that was going to happen this year," Moore revealed.

But she got fans buzzing when she dropped an absolute bombshell, adding: "One day."

Rumours started circulating that the show was making a return when the show's stars Joanna Page and Mathew Horne were spotted on a night out together in Wales.

Even Stacey actress Joanna Page wants another series.

In an exclusive interview with The Sun, she said: "Ruth and James haven’t given any indication whether they’re planning future episodes, although given the cliff-hanger the Christmas special was left on, how could they not?

“As a fan, surely they’ve got to do another one,”

“I don’t think we’d ever do another series because I don’t think we could get everyone together for long enough, but I can’t imagine they could leave it the way they did. One more special, then done.”

Over 17 million people tuned in to last Christmas' Gavin and Stacey special – so there's no doubt about whether people want to see more.

Actor Larry Lamb told The Telegraph: "After how well the Christmas special went down last year, it’s highly unlikely there won’t be more.

"We’re all ready, but when it’ll be, that’s up to James [Corden], Ruth Jones and the BBC.

"I just hope they knock another one out before I’m dead! That or they can start at the graveside."

Will there be a new series of Gavin and Stacey?

Despite speculation about a new series on the cards, show creator Ruth Jones put rumours to rest on This Morning.

She told the hosts: 'There aren't any plans to write anything.

"Obviously James (Corden) is in America and I'm in Wales.

"The joy of our last special is that if we never go back to Barry, we'll always wonder what happened next."

Ruth continued: "I quite like leaving it hanging. I'm sorry I don't have any better news."
