Dick Strawbridge and Angel Adoree are stars of Channel 4’s hit show Escape to the Chateau. The couple made the move from Britain to France several years ago with a dream of renovating and transforming a castle into a business and family home. Although the journey has been difficult, it has also been incredibly rewarding with several spin-off shows, ventures and ideas coming to fruition because of their success. So would Dick or Angel ever consider a reality show such as Strictly Come Dancing? Express.co.uk spoke exclusively to them about the possibility.
Escape to the Chateau has had seven series and because Channel 4 viewers can’t get enough of Dick and Angel, a spin-off show, Escape to the Chateau: Make Do and Mend debuted last year with series two airing now.
There is also a third TV show Dick and Angel star in – Escape to the Chateau: DIY where they help other like-minded people transform old castles.
Alongside this, the couple’s wedding venue business is extremely popular, and the coronavirus pandemic did not help their already long waiting list.
If a wedding invite isn’t on the cards, fans can also stay in one of their many glamping pods which are situated on the land surrounding Chateau de la Motte Husson.
The couple also has their own cut flower collection with a leading retailer, a fragrance collection with a well-known supermarket as well as home accessories which they sell on their own website.
To top it off, the husband and wife recently launched The Salon – a members-only club that gives exclusive behind the scenes access to everything Dick and Angel and Escape to the Chateau.
So is there anything they want to do but haven’t yet?
Express.co.uk asked Dick and Angel whether they would consider taking part in a reality show such as Strictly, I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! or Dancing on Ice.
The couple replied: “Ha ha! Well…we have both said we would love to learn to dance!
“But right now, focus is on Arthur & Dorothy…but we never say never!”
Should they ever sign up, this wouldn’t be the first time they appeared on such a show.
Dick began his career in television as the ‘Yellow Team Leader’ for six episodes in the first series of Scrapheap Challenge.
Between Scrapheap Challenge and Junkyard Wards, he has appeared in over 30 programmes.
Angel, on the other hand, launched an online retail outlet and event company called The Vintage Patisserie.
And when looking to take her brand further, she appeared on BBC Two’s Dragons’ Den where she won an investment from Deborah Meaden and Tho Paphitis.
After the show, the partnership did not come to fruition but Angel and Deborah still remain friends.
Dick and Angel have two children together – Dorothy, 7 and Arthur, 8.
Despite extremely busy schedules, the couple’s priority has always and will always been their children.
In a recent interview, This Morning presenter Phillip Schofield asked: “With the schedule that you have – the Chateau behind you, the TV [show], I know you’ve got a book, you were planning on going on tour in 2022.
“Yet family is central to what you do, how do you make that work?”
“I think we’ve made it work by forgoing sleep really!” Angel laughed. “Sleep’s really overrated.”
“And prioritising,” Dick added. “I think one of the key things is – hello Arthur and Dorothy by the way, they are in with Grandma and Grandad.
“We have got a good childcare system in place, both Jenny and Steve are looking after the children and they are number one.
“The reason why we couldn’t come on any earlier, I had to go to school to collect them while Angel was setting things up and getting ready, because we put the children first, it’s part of life.”
Escape to the Chateau: Make Do and Mend airs tonight at Channel 4 at 9pm.
