Alex Jones: The One Show host jibes that her marriage ‘will be lucky’ to survive lockdown

The One Show: Alex Jones makes comment about her marriage

Alex Jones, 43, has given The One Show viewers a relatable insight into her marriage during tonight’s episode by joking about how they are coping as a couple in lockdown. Many couples and families are finding that being stuck indoors due to coronavirus restrictions can heighten tensions at home.

As a result, Alex aimed a cheeky jibe at her relationship with husband Charlie Thomson.

The BBC presenter got onto the subject as she told a romantic story ahead of welcoming guests Katherine and Gerald onto the show.

Alex explained the happy couple have been married for 60 years and the programme had surprised them to celebrate the occasion.

She said: “We’ll be surprising Katherine and Gerald, a lovely couple from Trunch in Norfolk, on the eve of their diamond wedding anniversary.”

Alex’s co-host Amol Rajan, 37, then praised the pair for their lasting relationship.

He gushed: “Diamond, wow, 60 years of marriage!

“That is an achievement, don’t you think?” Amol added while turning to Alex to get her thoughts on the subject.

Making a light-hearted remark about her own five-year marriage, Alex quipped: “I tell you what, if this lockdown continues Amol we’ll be lucky to do six [years].”

“Joking, joking!” Alex then exclaimed, clarifying that her marriage isn’t really in any trouble.

It comes after Alex and Charlie celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary on New Year’s Eve.

To mark the special occasion, the presenter shared a  previously unseen photo in view of her 272,000 Instagram followers.

She captioned the snap: “How it started… and how it’s going.

“Yesterday was a double whammy for us. NYE and our 5th wedding anniversary.”

Alex continued: “The first, the best day of our lives with all our family and friends and 5 years later a much more low key affair, but no less important as we recognised a milestone and how especially lucky we are to have survived the last year despite what 2020 threw at us all.

“Not everybody was so lucky and I hope that 2021 will bring lots more happiness and smiles especially to those who have been through so much.

“Let’s look forward particularly to some ACTUAL hugs in the not too distant future when we can all be face to face with those we love. Until then, hold on best you can xx.”

After they tied the knot in a romantic ceremony, the couple welcomed their first son Teddy in January 2017.

They then became parents again to their baby Kit two years later.

Alex recently expressed her sadness at taking down the Christmas tree in her living room.

The star filmed herself standing by the carefully decorated tree in her stunning home, as she described it as a “tough” day for herself and many others.

“Got to say I feel quite flat this morning, especially now that it is the Twelfth Night and this beauty has got to come down.”

Alex added in reference to the national lockdown: “I love Christmas anyway but just feels more sad than usual. So here we go a mammoth task ahead all before going to work.”
