Billie Lourd shares ‘reality of grief’ as she honours late mum Carrie Fisher

Carrie Fisher’s daughter opens up about her loss

Bille Lourd, 30, spent Mother’s Day surrounded by her toddler son Kingston, two, and five-month-old daughter Jackson but candidly spoke about the grief this day brings her just one week after honouring her late mum of the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Star Wars sensation Carrie Fisher died aged 60 in 2016 after suffering a fatal heart attack and her only child is still dealing with the impact of her sudden departure.

Billie took to Instagram with a heartfelt message and throwback photo, showing her and Carrie in seemingly perfect serenity as they stood in a sun-soaked garden by the seaside with their hands clasped together.

The actress wrote: “Even though I’ve been a mom for almost 3 years and now have 2 kids of my own the first thing I think of when I hear happy Mother’s Day is her.

“Even though it’s been over 6 years since she died, when I first wake up, this still feels like her day – not mine.

“But as the day goes on I remember it is my day too now.” (sic)

Billie gushed over her “two magical little creatures”, saying there is “nothing that brings me more joy than being their mother”.

In a heart-wrenching declaration, Billie decided: “Even though she’s not here, it’s still her day. It’s our day now.

“With the magic of life comes the reality of grief. It is all intertwined. Mother’s Day can be many things.

“So like I say every year. Happy Mother’s Day but also griefy/ sad / lonely / estranged / frustrated / etc Mother’s Day! Mixed Emotions Mother’s Day!!!”

The actress ended her message with a sweet outreach to others also enduring a “mixed emotions Mother’s Day”, as she added: “Sending my love to anyone and everyone out there who needs it. You are not alone.”

The 30-year-old was shrouded in support from her fans, friends and family, with the likes of Jamie Lee Curtis, Craig Bierko and Beanie Feldstein sending their love.

One fan dubbed the post as “quality sobbing” material, while many congratulated Billie on her “spot on” message as they shared their own stories of why Mother’s Day is not as celebratory for them.

Another touchingly declared: “Grief is the price we pay for love.”

On May 4, Carrie was posthumously honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame where Billie made a tear-jerking tribute to her mum, concluding: “Mama, you’ve made it!”
