Brie Larson Is Excited About New James Bond Movie for the Sweetest Reason

Brie Larson is one of the most-talked-about actresses around these days. Sure, some of that chatter is due to her critics. But beyond the haters, the actress has a ton of fans out there interested in what she has going on and what she’s doing next.

One key way Larson has been able to cultivate such a devoted fan base is her consistent social media presence. Other actors sparsely share anything on Twitter or Instagram, while others let their assistants or reps run their profiles. Larson is different, and recently, she took to Instagram to share her thoughts on a hot topic: the upcoming James Bond adventure No Time to Die.

A very different James Bond film

Before we get to Larson’s thoughts on No Time to Die, it’s worth mentioning a bit about the film itself. The 25th entry in the James Bond series, this is also the first to be directed by an American. Cary Fukunaga (True Detective) steps into the director’s chair this time, following Sam Mendes (Skyfall, Spectre).

No Time to Die will features star Daniel Craig’s fifth and final appearance as James Bond. The actor has been hesitant to sign back on for these last couple of films. With that, No Time to Die now has the opportunity to present a true conclusion to his run as the character.

Moreover, Fukunaga’s film also aims to update the nearly 60-year-old franchise for modern audiences. Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge notably joined No Time to Die as a screenwriter, and Oscar winner Rami Malek’s villain poses an environmental threat. So this Bond is going places audiences have never really seen.

Brie Larson’s connection to ‘No Time to Die’

Incidentally, Larson’s number one reason for being excited about No Time to Die ties closely into the series’ more progressive facelift. Anyone familiar with the actress’ social and political views might not be surprised. But her connection to No Time to Die actually comes from somewhere more personal.

Earlier this year, Lashana Lynch joined the new Bond film as the first female 007. The actress is, of course, best known to audiences as Maria Rambeau, Carol Danvers’ best friend in Captain Marvel. It’s this aspect of No Time to Die which has Larson so thrilled to see the finished product.

Although it’s not clear how prominent a role she’ll play in No Time to Die, the first trailer indicates she’s an integral part of Bond’s adventure. The prospect of a female 007 — let alone a woman of color — is a refreshing choice, especially for a series often accused of clinging too tightly to its antiquated roots. Like Larson, we’d be excited to see a friend of ours in such an intriguing role too.

Will Lashana Lynch be in ‘Captain Marvel 2’?

Since Larson and Lynch forged a friendship on the Captain Marvel set, one wonders whether they’ll get the chance to reunite in the sequel. Although Marvel Studios hasn’t officially announced it yet, we know Captain Marvel 2 is on the way, probably around 2023. Rumors are already swirling about how it might shape future releases.

However, audiences have already seen Carol Danvers team up with the Avengers. So it’s possible her solo sequel will take place post-Avengers: Endgame, which was coincidentally set mostly in 2023. If this happens, then Lynch’s character will either be written out, or the actress will have to be digitally aged up.

All fans can do for now is wait to learn more about Larson’s next trip to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Hopefully, Lynch will be along for the ride. But even if she’s not, at least we — and Larson — will be able to see her go toe to toe with James Bond next year.

No Time to Die hits theaters on April 8, 2020.
