Carol Vorderman scolds fan for special friends query in front of son

Carol Vorderman asked if she was with ‘special friend’

Carol Vorderman, 62, took to Instagram directly after the first episode of I’m A Celebrity…South Africa aired on ITV last night, to discuss her terrifying Bushtucker Trial with her 332,000 followers.

The Countdown icon was seen launching herself over the side of a mountain, dropping 50m to win a star for camp alongside fellow I’m A Celeb All Stars, Amir Khan, 36, and Jordan Banjo, 30.

After opening up on watching the scary moment back, Carol gave her fans the opportunity to quiz her on anything they wanted to know about the series.

She also introduced her son Cameron King, 26, her youngest child from her marriage to ex-husband Patrick King, who had been watching the show alongside his mum.

Cameron waved hello to fans and could be seen sitting on the sofa with Carol, as she chatted to her Instagram followers in the live video.

However, things took a turn when one fan wanted to ask Carol about her love life, in which she has five “special friends”, rather than taking on a conventional romantic relationship.

Reading questions that had been sent in via Instagram, Carol paused when she spotted the “cheeky” fan’s comment.

The I’m A Celebrity star responded: “No, I don’t have any special friends with me tonight.”

Carol then burst into laughter as she turned around in Cameron’s direction, before scolding the Instagram user who had quizzed her on the subject.

“Cheeky monkey!” The TV presenter exclaimed.

Carol swiftly moved on when another fan asked her how she was at home watching the series, which is usually broadcasted live.

ITV pre-recorded the South Africa rendition of the show last year, with Carol explaining: “Because it was recorded in September.”

Carol was also left taken aback when a fan asked her who won the series, as she laughed: “As if I’m going to tell you!

“You’ve got to think of it a bit like when they record The Apprentice or Bake Off, where you’re not allowed to tell anyone anything.

“I’m not even allowed to tell you what’s coming up, let alone who won!”

It comes after Carol revealed in a recent interview with Daily Mail’s You Magazine that her grown-up children, daughter Katie, 30, and son Cameron, have met most of her “special friends” before.

She said: “I’m continuing with that system and it’s working very well.

“One’s been a friend for 11 years, one for seven. My kids know most of them.”

The maths whizz also insisted that in her sixties, “the goal of my life is to be happy, not to be in love”.

I’m A Celebrity…South Africa continues tonight at 9pm and all this week on ITV1 and ITVX.
