Christian Bale set to play ‘fantastic’ Marvel villain in Thor: Love and Thunder

Former Batman actor Christian Bale is about to swap playing the hero to playing a villain as he has been confirmed to play a villain in upcoming Marvel movie Thor: Love and Thunder.

T he 46-year-old British actor is confirmed to be taking on Chris Hemsworth’s Norse God Thor in the forth instalment of the Marvel film series.

Fellow Thor actress Tessa Thompson let the cat out the bag during a red carpet interview with Entertainment Tonight on Friday – explaining her fellow Brit would be joining the cast.

The 36-year-old, who has played heroic warrior Valkyrie in 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok and 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, was coy about exactly who Christian (who played Batman in Christopher Nolan’s iconic Dark Knight trilogy) would play.

"Christian Bale is going to play our villain, which is going to be fantastic," she said.

"I've read the script. I can't tell you much. Lots of exciting text messages exchanged between Natalie and I. We're going to have fun,” she teased.

Many Marvel fans have speculated Christian could be set to play world destroying intergalactic villain Galactus – who first appeared in a 1966 Fantastic Four comic.

Thor: Love and Thunder is due to hit cinemas in 2021 – and will see Chris Hemsworth reprise his role as titular God of Thunder, Thor, while Natalie Portman is also set to return to the franchise as Jane Foster and the female Thor.

Kiwi writer and director Taika Waititi is returning to helm the film after leading the superhero franchise’s third film – which made over £650 million worldwide.

Speaking of the new film, Taika hinted last year: "If you take  Ragnarok , which I feel was a very outlandish and big, bombastic film, we're trying double down on everything we did with that and create something that is even more crazy and even more of a big adventure."
