Emma Stone Became Famous For Her Red Hair, But She Was Blonde Long Before 'The Amazing Spider-Man'

The talented Academy Award-winning actor is known not only for her acting abilities but also for her stunning red hair. That is why fans were shocked when she first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man with beautiful blonde locks.

What many people don’t realize is the 33-year-old actor is naturally blonde. Nowadays, it appears the talented actor is shedding her red tresses to return to her original color.

Blondes have more fun!

In 2012, Stone scored the role of Gwen Stacy in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film, The Amazing Spider-Man. She reprised the role in 2014 for the sequel The Amazing Spider-Man 2. In both films, the acclaimed actor was a blonde.

Stone shocked fans when she first appeared as a blonde, but she took it in stride, telling InStyle, “It’s my Spiderman hair! Blondes do have more fun!” The actor admitted, “Sometimes I look in the mirror and still feel like I’m wearing a wig.”

As reported by Entertainment Weekly, the MCU likes their natural blonde leading ladies to be redheads. Case in point, Kirsten Dunst in the original Spider-Man, Scarlett Johansson in Iron Man, and Famke Janssen in the X-Men trilogy.

Stone went in the other direction, getting rid of her infamous red hair to become a stunning blonde for the Spider-Man role. According to Republic World, the actor revealed on the Late Night Show that the director Judd Apatow was responsible for her long-running casting as a redhead.

For the filming of Superbad, Apatow requested she dye her natural blonde hair a dark shade of red. She complied, and casting directors loved the look. The Crazy, Stupid, Love actor claimed it was years before she could go back to her natural color, saying that whenever she went on a casting call, she would suggest a blonde look, but the producers always preferred her as a redhead.

According to Glamour, Stone is finally going “back to her roots.” She was recently spotted at the Audi Polo Challenge sporting a “beautiful strawberry blonde” color. Then, she showed up at the AFI Life Achievement Award Gala for Diane Keaton with a platinum blond hair color.

The natural blonde beauty revealed that when she first arrived in Los Angeles, she had an agent that thought she could only land the roles of a cheerleader-type actor because of her hair color.

InStyle reported that Stone claimed, “One day, in a fit of trying to do something different, I just dyed my hair dark brown and got my first role a week later.”

In 2005, Stone had her first role in a television movie, portraying Laurie Partridge in The New Partridge Family. According to IMDb, she continued working in minor roles on popular television series such as The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, Medium, and Malcolm in the Middle.

In 2007, she had her big break, starring in her first major motion picture alongside Jonah Hill and Seth Rogen in the raunchy comedy Superbad.

The film’s costume designer, Debra McGuire, told Interview Magazine, “I think this was one of the first things that Emma had ever done.” She continued, saying, “She was just so precious… She was just so game for anything and so open and excited.”

The movie launched Stone’s career, and she went on to work on films such as Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, Easy A, Battle of the Sexes, and many more.
