Hollywood Records has released a new lyric video for Freddie Mercury‘s debut solo single, “Love Kills,” close on the heels of the release of Never Boring, a collection of the singer’s solo songs.
Justin Moon did the animation for the Studio 54 and disco-inspired lyric video.
The video comes with an enhanced audio mix and the lyrics come across the screen in an iconic 80’s font.
The song evoked mixed responses from fans when it was first released in 1984, ahead of Mercury’s first solo album Mr. Bad Guy.
It earned the Queen frontman his first solo entry on the Billboard Hot 100 and also received a nomination for a Golden Raspberry Award.
The song was originally a part of the soundtrack of Giorgio Moroder‘s restored version of 1927 silent science fiction film Metropolis.
The song reached No. 10 in the U.K. charts. It won a nomination for a Razzie award for “Worst Original Song, but lost out to Dolly Parton and Sylvester Stallone‘s “Drinkenstein” from the film Rhinestone.
The newly-restored version of “Love Kills” is a part of the Never Boring set, which is a CD//DVD/Blu-ray combo that features the star’s refurbished solo singles and spoken words.
