Ginger Baker has sadly died.
The drummer who helped to form rock super-group Cream died on Sunday (October 6) at the age of 80, his team confirmed on social media.
“We are very sad to say that Ginger has passed away peacefully in hospital this morning. Thank you to everyone for your kind words over the past weeks,” they wrote on his Twitter. A representative for the family also confirmed the news to AP.
Cream – made up of Ginger, Eric Clapton and Jack Bruce – sold millions of records, including hits like “White Room” and “Sunshine of Your Love.”
He is also responsible for what is considered rock’s first epic drum solo, in Cream‘s 1966 instrumental “Toad.”
Our thoughts are with Ginger‘s loved ones at this difficult time.
