Vanessa Bryant lost her husband Kobe Bryant and her daughter Gianna Bryant in January 2020, after the helicopter they had been riding in crashed in California, according to ESPN. Kobe and Gianna had been on their way to a youth basketball tournament, along with six others and a pilot, all of whom died on that fateful day. The devastating crash changed the lives of these families forever, and Vanessa has been doing her very best to honor her husband and their daughter ever since.
Vanessa is extremely mindful of her lost loved ones at all times. She often posts about Kobe and Gianna on social media, and has written some very emotional captions on special days. For example, in May 2020, Vanessa posted a sweet message in honor of what would have been Gianna’s birthday. “Mommy loves you more than I can ever show you. You are part of MY SOUL forever,” she captioned the Instagram pic. In March 2021, Vanessa honored her daughter again. Read on to find out how.
Vanessa Bryant added a new tattoo to her body in honor of Gigi
In addition to her sweet Instagram posts, Vanessa Bryant has also gotten quite a few tattoos as a way to keep Kobe Bryant and Gianna Bryant with her forever. In June 2020, Vanessa shared a few Instagram videos of herself getting new ink. “I wanted my boo boo’s [Kobe Bryant’s] sweet message transferred on me,” she captioned the post. In November 2020, she shared an Instagram photo of a tattoo that she got on her foot that has the names of everyone in her immediate family, including Kobe and Gianna. In March 2021, Vanessa decided to get another tattoo, this one specifically to honor Gianna, whom she lovingly refers to as “Gigi.”
Vanessa got the new ink on her right forearm. It reads “Mambacita,” which was her daughter’s nickname. Gigi’s nickname is a nod to her father Kobe’s own nickname, the Black Mamba. As seen in an Instagram photo shared by Vanessa, the word “Mambacita” is written in script, has a heart over the “i,” and has a small butterfly added to the tail of the “a.” Vanessa added a red heart and the butterfly emoji to her caption to point out the subtle tributes to her beloved daughter.
