The much-loved ITV show I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! is set to be back in its home country of Australia after the washout version set in Wales last year due to the coronavirus restrictions on travel.
Production staff of the show have been advised by ITV bosses that they should be working towards a return to Oz for the 2021 series. ITV are hoping to make an official announcement of the show’s return Down Under soon.
I’m a Celeb is going to air in its usual prime time spot of three weeks in November and contestants taking part will be following Australian government guidelines which will mean quarantining in a hotel on their arrival in the country before the series begins.
It’s also been reported that the New South Wales jungle set for the programme in Murwillumbah has been cleared by the production team and is ready to use for the new series.
Last year’s series took a very different turn as the restrictions in place for travel made in impossible for the show to take place in its usual Australian outback. Instead the show relocated to Wales where the campmates lived in Gwrych Castle in Abergele.
Popular presenters Ant and Dec hosted a different twist on the show with a creepy castle setting as opposed to the usual jungle camp.
Last year’s campmates, including winner Giovanna Fletcher 36, Vernon Kay 47, and Shane Richie 57, had a very different experience away from the Australian sun and forced to endure chilly temperatures and torrential rain in the creepy castle.
A source told The Sun: “Crew have been told to prepare for Australia again, which is music to everyone’s ears as they are over the moon to be back in the sun.
“Talent agents are delighted too, as stars are much keener to sign up now it’s in an exotic location offering viewers some sun amid a cold winter.”
The source went on to say: “International film production have been entering Australia all year since January, always adhering to strict Covid guidelines, so filming in a remote location should be straightforward.
“ITV is mindful and sensitive of the ever changing environment, but have all the plans in place now to get the series off the ground in Covid safe conditions.”
An ITV spokesman added to OK! Online: "We’ll announce the location for the new series of I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! in due course."
The hit reality show has been loved by fans since it first aired in 2002 and has always taken place in the Australian outback until last year when the show’s makers were forced to change the location in order for the show to run.
