Is Carolina Panthers Quarterback Cam Newton Married, and How Many Children Does He Have?

Only a few weeks ago, Cam Newton and Kia Proctor welcomed another beautiful child into the world. The dual-threat quarterback has been spending a lot of time with his kids as a foot injury currently has him sidelined.

How many kids does Newton have?

Cam Newton’s age, college, and NFL career

Born May 11, 1989, Cameron Jerrell Newton is currently 30 years old. His father, Cecil Newton Sr., almost played for the 1983 Dallas Cowboys and 1984 Buffalo Bills.

Cameron is the middle child between two brothers: older Cecil Jr., who plays the center position for the Baltimore Ravens and younger Caylin, who is the Howard Bison’s starting quarterback.

Newton began playing football in high school and had a standout performance during his junior year, getting the attention of several college programs.

He graduated from high school, ranked as the number two dual-threat quarterback in the nation, and signed to the University of Florida. Even though Newton won the backup quarterback job to Tim Tebow his freshman year, he was arrested for stealing a laptop the following year.

Therefore, the football player transferred to Blinn College in 2009, lead his team to a national championship, and then committed to Auburn University for the following year.

After several incredible performances, including winning the 2010 SEC Championship, Newton won the coveted Heisman Trophy by a landslide. He decided to forgo his senior season and declared for the 2011 NFL draft, where the Carolina Panthers drafted him first overall.

In his debut game, Newton threw for more than 400 yards, breaking Peyton Manning’s rookie record for the most passing yards on opening day. In 2015, the quarterback had his best season as he led his team to Super Bowl 50, even though they lost to the Denver Broncos.

The performance still won him an MVP title, and his peers ranked him as the top player in the NFL of 2016. Then, the dual-threat quarterback injured his shoulder, which caused his career to hit a steep decline.

Cam Newton’s injury and retirement rumors

In 2014, the football player had surgery to “tighten” up his ankle ligaments, an issue he dealt with since playing football at Auburn. After taking four months off to recover, he returned for the third preseason game, where he suffered a hairline fracture on his ribs.

He also had a terrible car accident that fractured two vertebrae in his lower back, causing him to miss one game. Three years later, the quarterback underwent surgery to repair a partially torn rotator cuff on his throwing shoulder, but he finished the season.

In 2018, the football player’s performance began to decline drastically, and he had surgery on his right shoulder in January 2019. The quarterback has not played since Week 3, and the Panthers placed him on injury reserve on November 5th as he’s “considering surgery to repair the Lisfranc injury in his foot.”

If everything goes well, he will be able to play by March 2020. However, it’s “highly unlikely” that the dual-threat quarterback will stay with the Panthers as they owe him $18.6 million.

While some have speculated that he will retire early, rumors are already circulating that the 30-year-old is considering playing for the Chicago Bears.

Is Cam Newton married and a dad?

While the quarterback is not married, he has been in a committed relationship with the mother of his four children, Kia Proctor, since approximately 2013.

Proctor has a daughter, 12-year-old Shakira, from another relationship. Together, they welcomed sons Chosen Sebastian (3) and Camidas Swain (15 months) as well as daughter Sovereign Dior Cambella (2).

On October 14, Proctor announced the birth of their newborn baby. It does not seem that the two are currently together as they both have deleted all pictures with each other on their Instagram pages.
