Louise Redknapp: Jamie Redknapp’s popstar ex ‘had a few tears’ after relief of big news

Louise Redknapp, 44, spoke out about the brave decision to reboot her music career and release her first album in 20 years following “a really tough few years” surrounding her split from Jamie Redknapp, 45. In an interview with the Sunday Post, the singer admitted her biggest fear had been that people “might not be remotely interested” in her comeback. “But I love it, so I was going to do it anyway,” she said. “If it turned out people weren’t interested then I’d have broad shoulders and just got on with it, but the response has been great.

“I remember when we organised a gig in London, and I thought it would be so humiliating if no one came along,” she continued.

“The morning the tickets went on sale, my friends said they couldn’t get tickets and I called my manager because I thought something was wrong with the ticket link. But he told me it had sold out in four minutes!

“I had to pull my car over and have a few tears,” Louise told the publication.

Meanwhile, Louise Redknapp also opened up on how “tough” her very public split from her husband of 19 years Jamie had been.

“Some days are still really tough,” she said, noting how her position as a celebrity meant people were interested in what was happening in her personal life.

Louise tied the knot with former footballer Jamie in 1998 and they divorced at the end of 2017.

They are parents to 15-year-old son Charley and 10-year-old Beau.

Earlier this year, Louise addressed the reason for their split, denying the Strictly Come Dancing ‘curse’ had anything to do with it.

“Strictly put fire back in my belly, but it didn’t break up my relationship,” she said. “After 20 years of marriage, it takes a lot more than that.”

On the subject of giving up her music career and being a wife and mother, she added: “For the first seven or eight years, it was quite nice not to have to worry about where your record’s going, or if people like you.

“But as time went on, I’d drop the kids off at school, go home, walk the dogs and then go home and think, ‘I have five hours until school pick-up.’ That’s a long day.”

She said things changed when the children got older because they and their father were busy.

“They’re at school and doing sport, Jamie was doing his thing, and there was pure panic,” she said.

“I was lonely and I felt like I had nothing to say.”

So far this year, Louise has released four singles from her upcoming comeback album.

The album, Heavy Love, is expected to drop in January.
