Another “Love Is Blind” couple is calling it quits. On Sunday, court documents obtained by Us Weekly and TMZ revealed Danielle Ruhl filed for divorce from Nick Thompson on Aug. 15. The couple has yet to comment on their reported split.
The news of their break-up comes just weeks after Ruhl and Thompson celebrated their one-year wedding anniversary in June. On June 8, Ruhl shared a video featuring some of the highlights from their first year of marriage on Instagram, alongside the caption: “one year married!!!” That same day, Thompson posted a candid photo of himself and Ruhl with a lengthy caption about the ups and downs of married life.
“One year ago today, on a much sunnier and hotter day in Chicago, Danielle and I said “I do” in front of a bunch of family, friends, crew, and cameras,” he wrote in part on Instagram. “Crew and cameras followed us around for most of the day while we worked, got ready, and decided what we would say at the altar. While it’s tough getting married under those circumstances, here we are a year later putting in the work to get to know each other and learn how to be partners for one another. All in real time. I’m proud of us.”
Ruhl and Thompson have been candid about struggling to deal with the realities of being married after the “Love Is Blind” cameras stopped rolling. In March, the couple opened up to People about going to couples counseling. At the time, Ruhl mentioned how the show’s unique approach to matchmaking ultimately made it more difficult for her and Thompson to understand each other outside the pods.
“A lot of couples, when they’re dating, have the opportunity to naturally learn one another’s language as you would if you’re trying to learn a language outside of English,” she explained. “Learning that in such a short period of time is very difficult and takes a lot of patience, love and understanding from both sides. That’s why we are trying every single day to figure out how to interpret what the other person’s saying because my definition of something could be an entirely different definition of what he thinks something is. There’s a lot of unnecessary conflicts that happen just based on misinterpretation.”
The news of Ruhl and Thompson’s split comes just days after fellow “Love Is Blind” Season 2 couple Iyanna McNeely and Jarrette Jones announced they were getting divorced after one year of marriage. On Aug. 17, the couple released a joint statement on Instagram that read in part, “After much thought, we’re saddened to share that we have separated and will begin the process of divorcing. While we have love for each other, our lives are going in different directions, and that’s okay. Coming to this decision was far from easy and we will always wish each other the best.”
