Yesterday we heard that Madonna had to be hospitalized after being found unresponsive and that she was in the ICU for a serious bacterial infection. It sounded touch and go for her and she had to be intubated at one point. Thankfully she recovered enough to go home and is on the mend, according to her manager, Guy Oseary, and her friend Debi Mazar. Madonna has been preparing for a 40 date tour, which has been postponed so she can recover.
TMZ reports that Madonna had a low grade fever for a month before her medical crisis and that she’s been urged to rest. People close to her are said to be worried that she’s going to keep pushing herself so that she can start her tour as soon as possible. There must be enormous pressure for her to pull this off with so much at stake. Perhaps in response to those stories, People has a quote from a source that Madonna is resting as per doctor’s orders.
Madonna is focused on her recovery following a scary hospitalization over the last several days due to a “serious bacterial infection.”
Now back in her N.Y.C. home, “she’s feeling better and following doctor’s orders and resting,” a source close to the Queen of Pop, 64, tells PEOPLE exclusively.
On Wednesday, Madonna’s longtime manager Guy Oseary revealed the singer entered the ICU on June 24 after developing a “serious bacterial infection.”
“Her health is improving, however she is still under medical care. A full recovery is expected,” wrote Oseary on his Instagram account. “At this time we will need to pause all commitments, which includes the tour.”

In that same story, People had a quote Madonna gave in late 2020 saying she stayed in shape by sheer force of will and that “I don’t believe in limitations.” She’s so used to being in peak physical shape and pushing herself that it must be hard for her to recognize when she’s sick and needs to take a break. I really hope she recovers and goes easier on herself. It sounds like we could have lost her and I’m so relieved she’s OK now.
