Michael Sheen has thanked the “incredible” women in his life for looking after him as he was struck down with COVID-19 for the past few weeks, in a social media update. The 52-year-old actor said it had been a “difficult” and “quite scary” experience.

The Prodigal Son star admitted that he had been “laid low” by the virus but was “lucky” to have the support of his partner and female relatives.

Michael lives with girlfriend Anna Lundberg and their one-year-old daughter Lyra.

He also shares a grown-up daughter Lily, 21, with actress Kate Beckinsale from their relationship in the late 1990s.

The TV and film star took to Twitter last night to open up to his 542,700 followers on International Women’s Day.

Alongside a picture of himself, he wrote online: “I’ve spent the last few weeks laid low by COVID.

“It’s been very difficult & quite scary.

“On #InternationalWomensDay I want to thank all the incredible women- Anna, Mum, Lily, Joanne, my friends & all the women I am lucky enough to have support me who’ve helped me through this,“ he added.

Many took to the comments section of the Staged actor’s post to wish him a speedy recovery.

“Get better soon Michael…..we need you fighting the good fight….” wrote former Countdown star Carol Vorderman, alongside a heart and a Welsh flag.

“I am so sorry to hear you have/had COVID. Staged has been something watched and rewatched many times over the past 12 months and had bought so much joy. You are a demi-god in my household! Please take care and speedy recuperation to you,“ another added.

“So relieved to hear you’re on the mend – we all love you & wish you a speedy & complete recovery. Many thanks to those lovely women in your life!,” a third remarked, before returning to the site.

“Just learned @anna_lundbergs & Lyra had it too – I’m so sorry and so relieved they’re better as well!”

Over on her own Instagram account, Anna shared a picture of the couple’s baby daughter and revealed that she too had caught the virus.

The black and white image showed the youngster pretending to take the temperature of one of her teddy bears with a thermometer.

“Yes, we’ve all been dealing with THE virus the last few weeks,” she confirmed in her caption.

“Michael and Lyra caught it first and then, inevitably, so did I.

“It’s been very challenging for all of us but luckily we’re all much better now than we were.

“Thankfully I was lucky to only have relatively mild symptoms, which meant that I could keep focusing on Lyra and Michael.

“I’m extremely grateful for our recovery and the support we’ve had from friends and family,” the Swedish television presenter added.
