The Emmys from 15 Years Ago Marked a Very Different Time in Hollywood – Look Back with These Photos!

It’s the weekend of the 2020 Emmy Awards and we’re taking a look back at what the show has looked like in the past.

2005 was a monumental year for the Emmys as it marked the first seasons of Desperate Housewives and Lost, the final season of Everybody Loves Raymond, a hosting gig from Ellen DeGeneres, and an awkward appearance from future president Donald Trump.

Desperate Housewives was nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series for the first time and three of the lead actresses were nominated in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series category, with Felicity Huffman taking home the award.

Everybody Loves Raymond won Outstanding Comedy Series for its final season and actors Doris Roberts and Brad Garrett both took home acting awards.

Lost won Outstanding Drama Series for its first season and many of the cast members were in attendance.

Jennifer Garner was pregnant at the time and she was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Alias. That award went to Patricia Arquette for Medium and she was at the show with then boyfriend Thomas Jane.

Hugh Jackman took home an Emmy for hosting the 2004 Tony Awards and Kristen Bell was one of the stars who participated in Emmy Idol, a spoof of American Idol in which TV actors performed theme songs on stage.

Trump got on stage to do a Green Acres spoof with Megan Mullally, who was nominated for Will & Grace that year. The Apprentice was nominated for Outstanding Reality Competition Program, but lost to The Amazing Race. (Though it has nine Emmy nominations overall, The Apprentice never won an award)

Some of the other stars who were in attendance at the event as nominees included Charlize Theron, Halle Berry, Sandra Oh, Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, Glenn Close, and more.

So, how are things much different these days? To just name a few things: Trump is now one of the most powerful people in the world instead of just a reality star like he was then. Some of the couples that walked the carpet are no longer together. Ellen Pompeo is still on Grey’s Anatomy though her co-star Patrick Dempsey has long since left. Nicolette Sheridan actually seemed to be friends with her Housewives co-stars. Broadcast television networks still ruled all of the nominations and streaming services weren’t even a thought yet. And no one seemed to have any negative opinions about Ellen back then.
