Coffee doesn’t always cut it for parents dealing with sleepless nights – as Frankie Essex and her boyfriend Luke Luv have discovered.
The first-time parents to newborn twins have been dosing up on vitamin B12 by injection to beat their baby fatigue.
The £35 Hollywood hack, regularly used by stars such as Hailey Bieber and Rihanna, is administered by a clinician via an injection into the body, usually arm or bum, and helps your body convert food into the energy your body needs to fight fatigue.
Frankie, 34, and Luke, 32, said the measure was necessary after suffering from severe sleep deprivation following the birth of their non-identical twins on 24 May.
“They’re feeding every three hours,” said Frankie, as she explains her reasoning for having the injection. “We’ve found the tiredness really hard. People tell you, ‘Get your sleep in when you can,’ but it’s impossible, especially with two. We’re sleeping for 90 minutes at a time, max. I feel more alive this week.”
While the shots might sound extreme, they are recommended for anyone who suffers from tiredness, lethargy, feeling faint and becoming breathless as a result of the reduced amount of oxygen in the blood. A lack of vitamin B12 is a common cause for anaemia, but many celebrities use them for a pep me up.
Kelly Brook is also a fan of the treatment, saying, “vitamin B12 shot in the bum does the job! They make you feel amazing – you go from a little bit groggy to 'ding!' It's probably not that sensible though…’
Victoria Beckham has also said how much she relied on the supplement during each of her pregnancies, while Chelsea Handler has made claims for the vitamin’s aphrodisiac qualities, tweeting: ‘Guess who’s getting a b12 shot for horniness?’
They join other stars including Madonna, Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry and Justin Bieber, who also inject the shots, according to reports.
Frankie and Luke welcomed their double bundle of joy on 24 May and have been in a love bubble ever since. Revealing their gorgeous names and birth weights to OK! for the first time, Frankie said: “Our son is called Logan and weighed 5lb 4oz, and our daughter is Luella and weighed 4lb 8oz.
"Luella has always been my girl name since I was 20 – I’ve never told anyone the name in case they stole it. Luke chose Logan’s name as he loves the [X-Men] character Wolverine, who’s called Logan. They both mean warrior, but we only found that out recently.”
