On Monday afternoon, Matthew Wolfenden had utilised Instagram’s Story feature to post a photo of himself doing the splits.
The accompanying caption read: “Splits at 41… let’s have ya!!
I can’t even say the word it’s so rude

“Work in progress and it hurts A LOT!!
“There’s still a gymnast inside that dad bod somewhere!!!”
His fans, however, had mistaken the word “work” for an explicit term due to the handwritten styling of the font.
Matthew didn’t hesitate to get back onto his Instagram Story after fans flocked to his direct messages, asking him to clear up what he intended to write.
In a follow-up video, the 41-year-old issued an update as he directly addressed his “rude” followers with an alien-like filter altering his voice and appearance.
“I’m just doing this video because on my last post, it looks like I’ve written a word that I haven’t written,” he said.
“It says, ‘work in progress,’ not what all the rude people that have written to me think I’ve put. I can’t even say the word it’s so rude.
“Rude people, it’s ‘work in progress.’ I would never do the other thing in the gym with middle-aged women. It’s very rude. I’m very upset about it.”
Last week, the father of two had fans speculating whether his new look meant he wouldn’t be reprising his role as David Metcalfe on the ITV soap anytime soon.
In the photo posted to his Instagram account, Matthew now sports a closely shaved bleached blonde hairstyle, which, of course, is a far cry from the actor’s usual appearance on Emmerdale.
This has prompted viewers to ponder whether Matthew won’t be back to shooting scenes anytime soon, considering that actors are usually encouraged not to alter their looks for continuity purposes.
Earlier this week, Matthew’s wife and Emmerdale co-star Charley Webb revealed to her Instagram followers that she won’t be enjoying a typical Christmas dinner this year.
Instead, Charley has opted for a curry.
The 33-year-old actress answered a series of questions from fans on her Instagram Story, with one curious follower eager to know whether she was cooking the Christmas family dinner.
“Absolutely not,” the mother of two responded.
“We have a curry on Christmas Day.
“I’m not a fan of turkey and we have a roast every Sunday so it makes sense.”
Charley revealed last week that she and her husband began celebrating the festive holiday early this year after putting up their Christmas tree at the end of November.
“Earliest ever for us,” the Manchester native wrote on her Instagram, “T’is officially the season.”
Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7pm on ITV.
