X Factor ratings are lowest ever as 800K people switch off Celebrity series

The X Factor ratings have scored their lowest ratings ever.

Despite Simon Cowell giving the show a face lift with the new Celebrity series, the show hasn't been hitting the right note with audiences.

As many as 800,000 people turned off from the Celebrity version of the show.

Figures fell to 2.8million after ratings had peaked with 3.8million viewers tuning in to see the stars battle it out on stage.

Music mogul Simon is very conscious of the ratings and commented the show was "trending on Twitter" as he tried to spark people's interest in The X Factor again.

The X Factor has been struggling to stay popular and has hit the bottom after its launch in 2004.

But TV insiders have insisted the bosses are "thrilled" with the audience engagement with the first live show after garnering the interest of 16 to 34-year-olds.

A source told The Sun : "We are thrilled with the audience reaction to our first live show, with The X Factor: Celebrity winning its slot among 16 to 34s by 137 per cent.

"The X Factor: Celebrity is currently consolidating overall at 7.5 million."

The Celebrity series has even brought on stars from one of the most popular TV shows Love Island in order to get viewers.

Zara McDermott, Wes Nelson, Eyal Booker and Samira Mighty, all of Love Island fame, have been battling it out in front of the microphone.

Olivia Olson and Ricki Lake have already bowed out of the competition.
