Following its collaboration with Seoul’s OkDongsik restaurant, South Korean collective 다다DADA多多 partners with Medicom Toy for the first time. Delivering special-edition 100% and 400% BE@RBRICKs in conjunction with distributors Kinki Robot and NUBIAN. Discussing the collaboration in an exclusive interview with HYPEBEAST, the founders reveal the significance of the project and the inspiration behind the design.
“BE@RBRICK was a favorite object for us since the time we were attracted to fashion and culture at a young age. We like the fact that we can present our creativity on its figure without limitation,” said the 다다DADA多多 team. “It all started from the conversation between Arario Gallery’s Don sun-pil. His project proposes that the so-called otaku culture is not simply for leisure or light amusement, but a fascinating social phenomenon and a clue to a shared aesthetic sense.”
Throughout his “Kitsutaitne” collection, Don highlighted the phenomenon of using watermarks to prevent copyright infringement in a society that circulates millions of images daily. Drawing inspiration from that idea, the upcoming BE@RBRICK figures arrive in an imitation jade stone finish with watermark prints signaling its supposed originality. Additionally, the packaging arrives in faux wood which replicates photographs of a real wooden box.
Look for the 다다DADA多多 x BE@RBRICK 100% and 400% figures to drop August 29 via 다다DADA多多 and at HBX for $155 USD.
