A certain Game of Thrones actor – who played one of the most detestable characters in TV history – has revealed a brand new look for a BBC reboot.
It’s safe to say that the former Joffrey Baratheon star is looking extremely unrecognisable in his new role.
Gone is Jack Gleeson’s signature Lannister blonde hair from the fantasy TV show, in which he died an extremely gruesome death, much to the delight of fans more than nine years ago.
Instead, he’s now sporting spiky brunette hair with a matching moustache to go with his menacing stare as he’s announced as one of the cast members of the upcoming new series of The Famous Five.
Inspired by the novels and short stories by Enid Blyton, the tale follows a group of five individuals as they embark on exciting adventures, which have been depicted several times throughout the years on film and TV.
Jack, who suggested that he was considering retiring from professional acting several years ago before returning to the profession, is playing a character called Wentworth, opposite Diana Quick as Mrs Wenworth.
The Famous Five consist of Diaana Babnicova as George, Elliott Rose as Julian, Kit Rakusen as dick, Flora Jacoby Richardson as Anne… and of course, Timmy the dog playing their furry companion Kip.
Other members of the cast include Ann Akinjirin as Fanny and James Lance as Quentin, to round off the exciting new on-screen adventure.
The series will follow the five ‘as they encounter treacherous, action-packed adventures, remarkable mysteries, unparalleled danger, and astounding secrets in an unforgettable odyssey that evokes the power of camaraderie between the fearless young heroes’, the BBC teased, with filming taking place across the South West of the UK.
In 2012, Jack admitted that he was considering taking a step back from acting professionally after Game of Thrones.
According to The Irish Independent, the now-31-year-old said: ‘After Game Of Thrones I’d be happy to do some amateur plays but I don’t think I want to do any more professional acting.’
He continued at the time: ‘I’d like to be an academic, a philosophy lecturer if possible. I’d do a Masters in Ancient Hebrew maybe, and a PhD hopefully, if I get in.
‘The thing about that level of acting is that it is very financially rewarding but for me it is a balancing act.’
He added that he was ‘happy to sacrifice a big pay cheque for my happiness’, confessing that while it may have been ‘more naive than mature’ to say that, that was how he felt.
However, in 2020 he appeared in Sara Pascoe’s BBC sitcom Out of Her Mind, and he’s set to appear in thriller In the Land of Saints and Sinners opposite Liam Neeson, Ciarán Hinds and Kerry Condon.
The Famous Five will air on the BBC.
