A few weeks after premiering his new album The Forever Story, hip-hop artist and Spillage Village member JID headed to NPR’s Tiny Desk for a live rendition of cuts from the project.
JID was accompanied by a saxophonist, trumpeter, trombonist, cellist, keyboardist, guitarist and drummer, as well as two female vocalists. The group opened with the song “Doo Wop” from his 2017 LP, The Never Story. He followed with the singles “Workin Out” and “Off da Zoinkys” from 2018’s DiCaprio 2.
The rapper went on to deliver a medley of The Forever Story tracks, including “Surround Sound,” “Sistanem” and “Galaxy.”
The Forever Story dropped on August 26, nearly four years after the release of his last full-length project, DiCaprio 2. The new album, however, serves as a sequel to his 2017 debut LP, The Never Story.
Over the course of approximately one hour and across 15 songs, JID uses the album to remind fans that he’s not only retained but has upped his game of delivering quick, punchy bars and penning lyrics that are at once poetic and political.
