Luke Evans is now set to join Tom Hanks in Disney‘s upcoming live-action adaptation of Pinocchio.
According to a new report from Deadline, the Welsh actor will portray the role of The Coachman, a villain in the story who lures children to a place named Pleasure Island and sells them off into slavery. Evans has already appeared in another Disney live-action remake previously, playing Gaston in 2017’s Beauty and the Beast. He’ll be joined by Hanks, who’ll take on the role of Geppetto, while Robert Zemeckis is set to direct. The film itself is written by Zemeckis and Chris Weitz and will be produced by Andrew Miano and Weitz through their banner Depth of Field.
Pinocchio was first released back in 1940 in animated form and told the story of a living puppet who desperately wanted to become a real boy, trying to achieve this with the help of his cricket friend and his conscience. The classic grossed roughly $122 million USD worldwide since its release more than seven decades ago. Now being remade, the live-action adaptation will be destined for Disney+ release instead of a theatrical run.
Elsewhere in entertainment, Robert Rodriguez is set to reboot Spy Kids.
