Some fans have started playing Call Of Duty: Warzone 2 early and there’s confusion and anger surrounding a specific weapon unlock.
At the time of writing, we’re less than an hour away from the launch of Call Of Duty: Warzone 2.0 and the start of it and Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s first season.
The battle royale is already available to play in New Zealand, though, and plenty have tricked the game into thinking they’re in that country so they can play it early.
Unsurprisingly, fans have found things to complain about, such as what’s proving to be a controversial method of unlocking new weapons.
Developer Infinity Ward has added a new weapon for players to obtain for season one: the M13B Assault Rifle from the previous Modern Warfare title.
There are two ways to unlock it. The first is to simply buy it as part of a store bundle using real money. If you don’t want to spend your money, though, you can unlock it by completing a specific mission in Warzone 2.0’s DMZ mode.
A screenshot shared via Reddit says that you need to defeat someone called The Chemist in the radiation zone and then extract with his dropped weapon.
This sounds simple enough on paper, but there are conflicting claims about whether the weapon unlocks for you and your team or just the player who picked it up.
The Reddit thread has several people insist that it will unlock for the whole team, but CharlieIntel reports that that’s not the case.
Given the arguments, perhaps Activision and Infinity Ward need to make it more obvious if there are alternative means of unlocking weapons.
Regardless of whether players like it or not, Activision and Infinity Ward will no doubt continue to offer new weapons and perhaps other unlockables through the DMZ mode, as a means of encouraging players to try it and Warzone 2.0 out.
Call Of Duty: Warzone 2.0 launches today for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
