Netflix is testing out a new “Shuffle Play” button that helps viewers decide on what to watch. The feature picks a random title based on the subscriber’s viewing history or playlist.
“Shuffle Play” is currently only being tested on TV devices. Similar to the “Recommended” section on Netflix, the new feature examines a viewer’s history, sifting through titles in specific genres or what’s been saved on “My List.” The button for the “Shuffle Play” can be found in three places: the “billboard” part of the home screen, the sidebar menu and under a viewer’s profile icon on the startup screen. “The purpose of the test is to make it easier for members to find something to watch,” noted a Netflix spokesperson. “The hope is to absolutely productize something.”
