Netflix has shared a first look at the hotly-anticipated fourth season of Stranger Things.
“see y’all in the upisde down,” the series’ official Twitter account wrote in signature inverted text, alongside a 30-second teaser trailer. “Stranger Things returns in 2022.”
The visual cuts between a blend of old and new footage from the series, highlighting a slew of action-packed moments before confirming the next installment will arrive in 2022. “Something’s coming,” Finn Wolfhard, who plays Mike Wheeler, says in the foreground of suspenseful music. “It is almost here.”
In an interview with Variety, executive producer Shawn Levy recently said the upcoming season is “visually and narratively very ambitious, much more ambitious than the prior three seasons…. It also happens to be the season that we chose to go much bigger. It’s the scale of this season and the multi-settings of season four.”
“I shot in Lithuania right before the pandemic,” he continued. “We have filmed in Georgia, Lithuania and New Mexico, so suffice to say season four is sprawling.”
Stranger Things season three premiered in 2019, and like most productions, the fourth season experienced delays due to the COVID pandemic. Wolfhard, Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown and the full ensemble cast are expected to return in season four.
