Oris Limited Edition Draws Focus to Plight of the Whale Shark

Oris‘ latest ocean-going watch celebrates the Whale Shark to highlight the danger that faces the world’s biggest fish.

Based on the Aquis GMT, this 2,016-piece limited edition features a Whale Shark skin pattern embossed on its blue dial.

The Whale Shark was added to the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Globally Endangered species in 2016, as the population has more than halved in the past 75 years.

Oris ambassador explorer and underwater photographer, Gerardo del Villar, is working to conserve the shark, which is fished for food and use in traditional medicine, but is the only surviving member of the prehistoric Rhincodontidae family.

Oris’ partnership with Gerardo aims to help him spread the word, make documentaries, host exhibitions and conserve endangered marine animals such as the whale shark. Del Villar will soon release a short film focused on Whale Shark.

The 43.5mm stainless steel watch is water resistant to 300m, individually numbered on the caseback and features a unidirectional 24-hour ceramic bezel, which allows the watch to keep track of three different time zones.

The Whale Shark Limited Edition is available now priced $3,200 USD. Head over to Oris for more details.
