Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby 'risk bumping into each other on holiday'

Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield are reportedly risking an ‘awkward’ encounter of bumping into each other while on their holidays in Portugal.

The former This Morning co-presenters used to enjoy soaking up the sun on a getaway with both their families, however, after Schofield stepped down from the programme and all his ITV projects in fully, this is presumed to be no longer the case.

The 61-year-old resigned from the programme after more than 20 years before quitting all his ITV projects when he admitted his ‘unwise but not illegal’ affair with a much younger employee.

His bombshell confession came after reports that Holly, 42, and her then co-presenter since 2009, were ‘barely speaking’ and their relationship had cooled behind the scenes.

Holly later admitted she was ‘shaken, troubled, let down’ and ‘full of questions’ and has now left This Morning for a summer break, after which she is expected to return.

A source has now revealed the pair are risking an ‘awkward’ run-in, as Holly is on holidaying in Portugal with her husband Dan Baldwin and their three children, and Schofield is also said to be planning a trip to his family home in Portugal – which he has no plans to sell, according to MailOnline.

The insider told the publication: ‘Phil loves his time on the Algarve and will be going back there very soon which obviously means there is a very big chance that he will run into Holly.

‘It is very sad, they enjoyed some really happy and fun times there together but why shouldn’t he go back?

‘They both own their homes and neither will be backing down. Can you just imagine how awkward it will be though?

‘Phillip is desperately sorry for hurting Holly and essentially ending their friendship, he has apologised to her but equally it is hard for her to forgive it all.’

Holly was spotted earlier this year in Portugal near her £8millon villa, according to The Sun, where she was seen for the first time after Schofield’s confession.

Schofield issued an apology to his former Dancing On Ice co-host, in his first statement addressing the scandal publicly.

He said: ‘I’ve lost my best friend. I let her down (Holly). I let that entire show down. I let the viewers down.

‘Holly did not know (about the romance). And she was one of the first texts that I sent, to say, “I am so, so sorry that I lied to you,”’ he added to The Sun.
