Romantics out there were shook when it was rumoured Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner were getting a divorce.
They were even more frazzled when on Wednesday, the couple confirmed they were ending their marriage ‘after four wonderful years’.
The pair first met in 2016 after Joe, 34, slid into the 27-year-old Game of Thrones star’s direct messages, and a year later they were engaged.
Since marrying in Las Vegas in 2019, the pair have welcomed two children; three-year-old Willa, and a baby daughter born in summer last year.
As the divorce rumours circulated, speculation mounted as to why they decided to end their marriage.
While Sophie and popstar Joe say the split was a mutual decision, according to US outlet TMZ, the famous couple split due to a difference in their lifestyles and claimed a source told them: ‘She likes to party, he likes to stay at home. They have very different lifestyles.’
However, Sophie’s fans beg to differ, as they have now unearthed a 2020 interview in which the actress seems to say the opposite.
While being interviewed by TBS about how their relationship was fairing in lockdown, Sophie said everything was ‘working in [her] favour’ because Joe’s a ‘social butterfly’ and she’s an introverted ‘homebody’.
‘I’m an introvert, I’m a homebody,’ she began.
‘If I could stay at home all day I would, so this is great for me. I leave the house once a day to walk my dogs and then that’s it. I see how people are finding it difficult, but I don’t understand how people are really struggling with social distancing.
‘I’m like, all you have to do is stay at home and get drunk at home.’
When asked how she and Joe were getting along, the actress quipped: ‘Yeah, I heard the divorce rates are up.’
She then added: ‘Everything seems to be working out in my favour here because Joe’s a real social butterfly, so I struggle to lock him down and have him just spend time with me, so it’s like prison for him but it’s great for me.’
Sophie’s fans were loving the throwback clip, as one Game of Thrones enthusiast commented: ‘THE NORTH REMEMBERS.’
Another said: ‘Her team doesn’t need to do anything. Her fans will unearth these gems for her.’
Their joint statement announcing their split read in full: ‘After four wonderful years of marriage we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage.
‘There are many speculative narratives as to why but, truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children.’
The Jonas Brothers singer officially filed for divorce from Sophie on Tuesday, September 5 – obtaining a petition for dissolution of marriage in Miami Dade County, Florida.
The filing revealed the initials of their youngest daughter – D.J – whose name has been kept secret by the private pair.
A source has told The Blast that the couple had an ironclad prenuptial agreement (prenup) in place, but it did not cover their two children as per state laws.
The prenup states that both parties will keep any money made from their respective careers.
Sophie estimated net worth sits at around $12 million (£9.5 million), while Joe is thought to be worth $50 million (£40 million).
