If you’re an Amazon Prime member, you know that in addition to getting free two-day shipping on your monthly supply of toilet paper you can also stream plenty of movies and TV shows for free as part of your subscription. And there are so many added each month. In October 2020, the new movies and TV shows on Amazon Prime include numerous Amazon original specials, movies, and series, a ton of classic movies from decades past, the return of NFL football, and a few extra special surprises.
This month, Amazon is unveiling the first half of its Welcome to the Blumhouse series of interconnected horror films. Co-produced by Blumhouse Television, the movies represent emerging and diverse voices in horror. There’s Black Box from director Emmanuel Osei-Kuffour Jr., The Lie from director Veena Sud, Nocturne from writer-director Zu Quirke, and Evil Eye from directors Elan Dassani and Rajeev Dassani and executive producer Priyanka Chopra Jonas.
Amazon Prime Video is also offering previews of some of their premium channels this month, with select free content from the likes of Shudder, Sundance Now, Acorn TV, and more. A Knight’s Tale
This cult classic from 2001 is one of the most memorable films starring the late Heath Ledger. The then-21-year-old Ledger stars as a 14th Century peasant with dreams of becoming a knight. It may be a bit of a bittersweet watch today, but it still makes for a pleasant dose of nostalgia.

Funny Girl
If you’re a fan of Barbara Streisand, then you owe it to yourself to check out the 1968 classic film that made her a movie star. Based on the Broadway musical of the same name, which also starred Streisand, the film tells the story of Broadway star Fanny Brice’s career and romances.

Southside With You
This sweet acclaimed drama depicts the real-life first date between Barack Obama and Michelle Robinson in 1989. The pair would, of course, go on to become President and First Lady of the United States, but in this movie they are simply two young people getting to know one another.

The Wedding Planner
Jennifer Lopez and Matthew McConaughey star in this time-capsule of a 2001 rom-com. J. Lo is the titular wedding planner who falls in love with her latest client’s fiancé (McConaughey). It may not be the most prestigious film ever made ( it boasts a 16% on Rotten Tomatoes), but it’s definitely a guilty pleasure.

Savage X Fenty Show: Vol. 2
Rihanna’s inclusive and intersectional fashion label is bringing its second original film to Amazon this month. Part fashion show, part art exhibit, and part concert, the second Savage x Fenty Show features stars like Travis Scott, Lizzo, and Rosalía.

Welcome To The Blumhouse
This October will be extra spooky thanks to Amazon’s deal with horror producers extraordinaire, Blumhouse. Welcome to the Blumhouse consists of eight interconnected original horror films, with the first four debuting this month. Black Box and The Lie drop on Oct. 6, while Evil Eye and Nocturne debut a week later.
