Prince Louis turns two today and, in celebration, Prince Charles just shared a photo with the birthday boy that’ll steal your heart. While tributes to the royal toddler have begun rolling in from Her Majesty the Queen, Kate Middleton and Prince William, and more, the sentimental black-and-white snapshot posted by the 71-year-old Prince of Wales might be the sweetest to hit social media on little Louis’ second birthday.
Charles took to Instagram early on Thursday, April 23, to post his nod to his third grandchild. In the tender snapshot, Charles holds Louis in his arms as the two embrace in a big hug. “A very Happy Birthday to Prince Louis, who turns two today,” reads the caption. “The young Prince enjoys a hug from his Grandfather, The Prince of Wales.” Making the scene even more special is the photo credit revealed by Charles in the post — Louis’ mom, Kate, captured the loving moment.
We know from previous photos and interviews with Charles that he shares a special bond with Louis, and all of his grandkids for that matter. He previously opened up to Hello Magazine about the relationship, saying, “It’s a different part of your life. The great thing is to encourage them. Show them things that take their interest. My grandmother did that; she was wonderful… It is very important to create a bond when they are very young.”

Of course, Charles isn’t the only one celebrating Louis specifically on this special day. After sharing a sneak peek yesterday of rainbow artwork the little boy had painted, Kate and William shared a hilarious behind-the-scenes version of the photos showing a messy-faced Louis with paint all over his cheeks. Hey, guess in some ways he’s just a typical toddler, huh?
The Queen also shared the rainbow-painting photos of Prince Louis from the official Royal Family Instagram account. And although Louis’ aunt and uncle Meghan Markle and Prince Harry currently aren’t on social media, we imagine they probably sent the toddler well-wishes, too.
Happy birthday, Prince Louis!
