The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree! Wonderwall.com is taking a look back at stars who’ve shared screen time with their kids over the years, starting with Andie MacDowell and Margaret Qualley… In 2021, the real-life mother-daughter duo played a mother and daughter on the Netflix limited series “Maid” in which Margaret stars as Alex, a single mom who leaves behind her abusive boyfriend and finds work as a maid. Andie portrays Paula, Alex’s mom who struggles with mental health issues. The 10-episode series received rave reviews from critics as well as three Golden Globe nominations including best actress and best supporting actress in a miniseries for Margaret and Andie, respectively.

Eugene Levy had to look no further than his offspring for his latest success! He teamed up with son Dan Levy to create the hit Pop TV show “Schitt’s Creek,” on which both starred alongside another family member — Eugene’s daughter and Dan’s sister, Sarah Levy. The Canadian comedy, which debuted in 2015 and concluded after six seasons in 2020, swept all the major comedy categories during the 2020 Primetime Emmy Awards including outstanding lead actor for Eugene and outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series for Dan.

The late, great Carrie Fisher and daughter Billie Lourd worked together in two films in the “Star Wars” sequel trilogy — 2015’s “Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens” and 2017’s “Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi.” Carrie, of course, reprised her iconic franchise role as Leia Organa, while Billie portrayed Lieutenant Kaydel Ko Connix.

Meryl Streep and daughter Mamie Gummer played a wannabe rocker and her straight-laced offspring in 2015’s “Ricki and the Flash” (pictured). But it wasn’t the first time the duo had worked together. Mamie made her movie debut as the daughter of Meryl’s character in 1986’s “Heartburn” and played a younger version of her mother’s character in 2007’s “Evening.”

In 2019, Tilda Swinton and daughter Honor Swinton Byrne appeared in their first film together: “The Souvenir.” In the drama — which revolves around a film student’s controversial relationship with an older man — Tilda and Honor play mother-daughter characters Rosalind and Julie. They joined forces once again for the 2021 sequel “The Souvenir Part II.”

Henry Fonda shared the screen with activist-actress daughter Jane Fonda in what would be his last feature film: 1981’s “On Golden Pond.” In the family drama, which was adapted from Ernest Thompson’s 1979 play of the same name, Jane played her real-life father’s on-screen daughter, Chelsea Thayer Wayne. Henry and Jane even received a pair of Oscar nominations — best actor and best supporting actress — for their portrayals. Henry took home the award.

Although Kate Hudson has yet to share the screen with mom Goldie Hawn, she has co-starred with the man who raised her, Goldie’s longtime partner Kurt Russell. The pair took their father-daughter bond to the big screen in 2016’s “Deepwater Horizon” in which Kurt played oil rig installation manager Jimmy Harrell and Kate portrayed Felicia Williams, the wife of star Mark Wahlberg’s character.

For the 1996 film “Striptease,” Demi Moore enlisted real-life daughter Rumer Willis to play an important role: her character’s daughter! Rumer also played dad Bruce Willis’s on-screen kid in the 2005 film “Hostage.”

In 2021, Thandiwe Newton and daughter Nico Parker (whom she shares with writer-director husband Ol Parker) appeared in the Hugh Jackman-led sci-fi thriller “Reminiscence.” While this was Nico’s first time appearing alongside her actress mom, it wasn’t her first time on the big screen: Nico made her acting debut in 2019’s “Dumbo.”

Angelina Jolie made her big screen debut at 6 alongside father Jon Voight in the 1982 film “Lookin’ to Get Out.” They later shared the screen in the 2001 blockbuster “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” in which the Oscar-winning actress portrayed the title character and the “Mission: Impossible” alum played Lord Richard Croft, her dad.

Ushering in the third generation of movie stars in the family, Angelina Jolie worked alongside daughter Vivienne Jolie-Pitt in 2014’s “Maleficent.” Vivienne played the younger version of Elle Fanning’s Princess Aurora and made quite the impression on her mom, who told reporters covering the Disney film, “I was actually shocked that she was doing so well.”

Scott Eastwood made his acting debut in the 2006 war drama “Flags of Our Fathers,” which his dad, Clint Eastwood, directed. Martin Sheen has acted alongside his sons on several occasions. In “Wall Street,” he portrayed Carl Fox, the father of son Charlie Sheen’s character, Bud Fox (pictured). In 2010’s “The Way,” he played the father of real-life son Emilio Estevez’s on-screen alter ego. (Emilio also wrote and directed the indie film.) Martin has also appeared in movies with his other two lesser-known actor offspring, son Ramon Estevez and daughter Renée Estevez.

Susan Sarandon and real-life daughter Eva Amurri Martino appeared together in the 2002 film “The Banger Sisters” (pictured). In the flick, Eva played the daughter of Susan’s character. But it wasn’t the first time the duo teamed up on film. In 1995’s “Dead Man Walking,” Eva played a younger version of her mom’s character, Helen Prejean.

It’s always a family affair for the Apatow-Mann clan! Maude Apatow and Iris Apatow have starred alongside mom Leslie Mann in several films directed by their dad, Judd Apatow. It started when they were just little kids: They appeared in “Knocked Up” in 2007 as well as in “Funny People” in 2009 and “This Is 40” in 2012.

Three generations of Douglas men starred in the 2003 dramedy “It Runs in the Family.” Michael Douglas played lawyer Alex Gromberg. His real-life father, screen legend Kirk Douglas, portrayed Alex’s father, Mitchell, and his real-life son, Cameron Douglas, played Alex’s offspring, college kid Asher. Michael also had a small, uncredited role in another film in which his father starred: 1966’s “Cast a Giant Shadow.”

Tatum O’Neal made her acting debut in 1973’s “Paper Moon” (pictured) in which her father, Ryan O’Neal, portrayed her character’s quasi-guardian. The child star won an Oscar for her work in the film, and she and her old man teamed up on the big screen twice again: in 1976’s “Nickelodeon” and in 1980’s “Circle of Two,” in which Tatum starred and Ryan had a small uncredited role.

The role of the title character’s mother was perfectly cast in the 2003 film “Sylvia,” which is based on the life of Sylvia Plath. Gwyneth Paltrow starred as the poet-novelist and her real-life mom, Blythe Danner, portrayed Sylvia’s mother, Aurelia Plath. The duo also shared the screen in the 1992 TV movie “Cruel Doubt.”

Brendan Gleeson has appeared in several films alongside his oldest son, “The Revenant” actor Domhnall Gleeson (right), including “Six Shooter,” “Studs,” “Perrier’s Bounty,” “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1” and “Calvary.” Surprisingly, the father-son duo have never played relatives on screen. Meanwhile, Domhnall’s little brother, lesser known actor Brian Gleeson (center), played the younger version of their father’s character in the 2016 action flick “Assassin’s Creed” and portrayed the son of Brendan’s character in “The Tiger’s Tail.”
