'Street Fighter II' Officially Removes "Rising Sun" From E. Honda's Stage

Fans of CAPCOM‘s Street Fighter II game may have noticed something different with E. Honda’s Kapukon Yu (Hot Water of Edo) stage.

Updated in Capcom Arcade Stadium, gamers noticed that the imperial rising sun motif and flashing sun rays have been removed from the kabuki/mountain mural’s left-hand side. This news comes as many game developers move to a more global audience, avoiding possible conflicts with different markets — removing all potentially-sensitive or offensive symbols from current and past games. One Twitter user also points out that Fei Long’s flag has changed several times throughout the years, and that Zangief still maintains his U.S.S.R. hammer and sickle flag.
