TOGA VIRILIS FW21 Takes a Tailored Approach to Crossing Gender Boundaries

Yasuko Furuta‘s Tokyo-based brand TOGA VIRILIS utilizes tailoring as a means of expanding gendered dress notes with its Fall/Winter 2021 collection. Echoing the shape of the wearer’s body, the new collection is meant to be worn in a variety of ways.

The new collection consists of a wide range of fabrics and colorful patterns, which further expand the notion of genderless dressing. A full fake suede bouclé look and a brown, black, gold and creme striped faux-fur coat showcase some of the collection’s most vibrant pieces. Outerwear garments, which include trends coats, jackets and blousons feature fitted waists to tailor one’s form. Blousons already feature this waist-cinching capability by design, but for other outerwear garments and velvet blazers, this is achieved via silk, leather, velour and wool belting. Complimenting outerwear pieces are a variety of silk shirts with frill details and other printed shirts.

Clean shirts are updated by TOGA original graphics, which include zodiac signs and animals. The graphics also extend to accessories including necklaces, scarves and ear cuffs. Shoe offerings feature side gore boots with a shark tread sole, faux-fur covered sandals and lace-up shoes with Western motif flaps. Rounding out the collection is a new collaboration with Dickies, featuring soft-toned shirts and pants boasting loose silhouettes.

The collection is available now on the brand’s website and in select stores.
