Tyler, the Creator Reveals Pharrell Helped Him With His Converse Deal

Tyler, the Creator recently appeared on Hot 97’s Ebro in the Morning to open up about his newest studio album, Call Me If You Get Lost, his place in hip hop, being banned in the UK in 2105 and how it affected his career, as well as his mentors JAY-Z and Pharrell Williams.

Throughout the conversation, the discussion of mentorship and his Converse deal came up and the artist revealed that Pharrell was a large part as to why he was able to secure the partnership. Not much detail was revealed, but Tyler said, “My Converse deal wouldn’t have happened without him. He helped set that up. During The Grinch soundtrack. That man looks out for me.”

Tyler first signed with Converse in 2017 and since then, the deal has resulted in numerous collaborative releases with his Golf Wang apparel label. Some standout moments include the One Star and Chuck 70 releases and the Gianno model. Before Converse, Tyler had a brief collab with Vans and even a small inkling that he might begin a partnership with adidas.
