As a leader in the swimwear market – for men’s and womenswear – Vilebrequin has become associated with plush fabrications and well-wearing water comfortability. To expand its creative reach, the brand has recently launched a new art-focused collaboration for Spring/Summer 2022.
The collection is titled “The Artists’ Editions,” and is curated by Arnaud Hubert, CEO of JRP|Editions (a renowned Swiss contemporary art publisher), and Lionel Bovier, Director of MAMCO Geneva. It highlights three visual artists that have collaborated with the brand to imprint their unique design aesthetic onto several swimwear items.
Amongst a selection of short-sleeve button-down shirts, drawstring swim trunks and bucket hats, vibrant colors like yellow, green, blue and red are prevalent. Pieces in the collection have been tagged by LA artist Kenny Scharf (utilizing multi-colored, bright cartoon-like figures), Swiss artist Sylvie Fleury (using Conceptualism as a base), and Swiss painter John M Armleder (using a mixed-media design approach).
According to the brand, this multi-person collaboration “explores the creative possibilities of a swimsuit from the radically different perspectives of a variety of artists.” And for June, Scharf’s “Faces in Places” design will be highlighted, while Fleury’s “Hot Rod” prints will feature in July, just in time for 2022 Miami Swim Week.
Further information on the collaboration can be found on the brand’s website and item pricing and availability.
In other news, ESPN and the NBA teamed up for the first time on new “Victory Goggles.”
