The latest sequel to a popular Netflix Christmas movie has been compared to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s love story.

A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby follows the story of former New York journalist Queen Amber (Rose McIver) and her European husband, the king of fictional Aldovia, Richard (Ben Lamb), preparing to welcome their firstborn in the film’s third annual installment.

And after it hit screens last week, Twitter users were quick to draw parallels with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s story, noting the similarities with the run up to the birth, and the aftermath.

Taking to Twitter, one viewer wrote: ‘So is it safe to say this is a low Budget movie about Harry and Meghan? They just made them King and Queen’.

The festive rom-com tells the story of the couple, an American journalist and a European royal, much like LA-born former actress Meghan and British Prince Harry.

The pair, who married in the second film, reveal they are keen to keep their firstborn’s life as ‘normal’ as possible – similar to Meghan and Harry, who opted against giving Archie a royal title when he was born in May.

The couple also keep their baby’s gender a secret, and discuss hypno-birthing in the flick, something reportedly considered by Harry and Meghan last year.

Last December Vanity Fair’s royal correspondent Katie Nicholl reported that Meghan was reading up on hypnobirthing techniques and was hoping to go for a natural birth.

Meanwhile the film shows Queen Amber throwing a lavish baby shower, an American tradition, something Meghan did in New York in the run-up to her birth.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed baby Archie Harrison in May, and have been careful to keep him out of the spotlight as much as possible.

According to reports the couple are keen to give him a down-to-earth upbringing away from the spotlight, much like Princess Diana wanted for Princes William and Harry.
