DEAR DEIDRE: THE first clump of hair fell out when I was in the shower six months ago and now my head is covered in huge bald patches.
I’m a 27-year-old woman and I’m really struggling to cope with my alopecia.

I used to be outgoing and good fun. But now I’ve lost all my self-confidence.
I’ve lost friends because I didn’t want to meet up any more, I’ve lost my job because I couldn’t bear to turn up looking like this.
This is such a cruel condition.
My boyfriend tries his best to cheer me up but I know that even he is fed up.
DEIDRE SAYS: It isn’t entirely known what causes alopecia, although anxiety and stress may be a trigger.
So it would help to learn how to deal with this – I’m sending you my support pack Self-Help For Stress.
Alopecia UK (alopecia.org.uk) offers information and online support from others who have suffered hair loss. You do sound low so I’d recommend you to talk to a counsellor who can help you build your confidence.
